Heritage Week Update
Heritage Week has become an important, annual tradition for the Clovis Elementary community. During the week leading up to Thanksgiving, the Jaguars dedicate time to celebrating who they are and where they come from. A team of teachers prepare lessons and learning opportunities for students to experience culturally relevant curriculum and resources. Another important piece built into the week is learning about gratitude through the Positivity Project. As an act of gratitude, students donate non-perishable food items which demonstrates #positivityinaction. Due to COVID-19 precautions the food was collected via drive-thru and drop off rather than in classrooms, but that did not stop the Jags from collecting hundreds of items. In collaboration with Clovis Rotary the donations become part of a community event hosted by P-R Farms on December 20th. Principal, Donelle Kellom, stated, “I am so humbled by our community. Even through a pandemic they came together and made it a priority to express gratitude and give to those in need.”
