Intercultural Diversity Advisory Council (IDAC)

The purpose of the page is for our staff and students to be able to illustrate the amazing things that are happening at our school!

What is IDAC?

Intercultural Diversity Advisory Council (IDAC) draws members from parents to represent our school at district level climate assessment/problem-solving meetings. The primary purpose of the Intercultural Diversity Advisory Council (IDAC), originally formed in 1988 as the Intercultural Advisory Council, is to assist in the formation and review of policies that assure non-discriminatory practices in all operational areas of the Clovis Unified School District. Its further mission is to assist in improving the cultural environment of the District.

IDAC Focus Areas

Multicultural Education

Clovis Elementary School will intentionally plan and deliver lessons and provide opportunities for students of all cultural backgrounds to participate in activities that allow them to share aspects of their culture.

We celebrated Heritage Week in the month of November. Heritage Week has become an important, annual tradition for the Clovis Elementary community.  During the week leading up to Thanksgiving, the Jaguars dedicate time to celebrating who they are and where they come from.  A team of teachers prepare lessons and learning opportunities for students to experience culturally relevant curriculum and resources.  Another important piece built into the week is learning about gratitude through the Positivity Project.  As an act of gratitude, students donate non-perishable food items which demonstrates #positivityinaction.

Acceptance and Understanding of All

Clovis Elementary School will plan and implement lessons and activities promoting character development based on Positivity Project's 24 character strengths.

Positive psychology’s 24 character strengths serve as the foundation of The Positivity Project’s approach. The Positivity Project is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated partnering with K-12 schools and helping America’s youth build stronger relationships by seeing the character strengths in themselves and others. Only by consistently teaching our youth about the character strengths that everyone possesses, will they see people based on the content of their character.

Tune in to video morning announcements each Friday for an update from Mrs. Spenhoff about what the week's Positivity Project character strength is. She will share what she's seen out in the classrooms and give examples of what to expect for each strength!

P2 for Families is an easy and effective way for families to discuss the importance of character strengths and positive relationships. It is differentiated for grades Pre-K to 2nd grade, 3rd through 5th grade, and 6th-8th grade. Each character strength follows a 1-1-3 model: 1 quote, 1 video, and 3 questions to drive conversations around character at home.
